Scrapped cars catch fire at recycling facility

The Parkersburg Fire Department responded around 12:15 p.m. Saturday to a fire at RJ Recycling LLC on Garfield Avenue where cars that were to be scraped caught fire, officials said.

Flames were 20-30 feet in the air, Capt. R.C. Wix said. The likely cause was a battery that exploded during the scrapping process, he said.
