PARKERSBURG — Local cititizens and the Wood County Schools worked together to complete a landscaping project on the front campus of Parkersburg High School.

The landscaping project, which began last year, coincides with the high school’s centennial celebration set for Aug. 25-29.

Kiki Angelos of Parkersburg was one of the local residents who worked on the PHS landscaping project.

“As a citizen and proud of our school, I personally wanted to do something to improve and beautify the campus, and knowing the centennial was coming up I took on a project to do some landscaping on the front campus” of Parkersburg High School, Angelos said.

She said the project was done with the support and cooperation of Wood County Schools Superintendent John Flint, Assistant Superintendent Mike Fling and former PHS principal Pam Goots along with sponsors Mickey Welch of Parkersburg and the PHS classes of 2016 and 2017.

Angelos said she contacted Mike Reynolds of Reynolds Landscaping and presented him with the layout of her proposed plan and how she wanted the letters PHS with bushes elevated and a stone wall along with red and white roses to represent the school’s colors.

Angelos said she had two columns built and two red metal Indian heads, which Steve and Bruce Farra of Farra’s Welding made, added to the PHS landscaping project.

To finish the project Angelos said she contacted Reynolds a second time to do a little more landscaping on both sides of the horseshoe.

These projects started in May 2016 and a year later were completed, she said.

Angelos said she was proud of the education her three children and other family members received at PHS.

“I have traveled in many states and as far as I am concerned Parkersburg High School is by far the nicest and best looking high school anywhere,” Angelos said.

“Through the years Parkersburg High School has turned out thousands and thousands of well educated and successful students and many still live here in the Mid-Ohio Valley and others live all over the country and the world,” she said.

Angelos said she hopes many people turn out for the PHS centennial celebration beginning on Friday.
