Parkersburg task force seizes 1 pound of meth
Beaver Street man arrested
PARKERSBURG — A city man was arrested Thursday after Parkersburg Narcotics Task Force agents intercepted a package containing more than $45,000 worth of suspected methamphetamine.
Anthony M. Rowell, 33, of 1403 Beaver St., Parkersburg, was arrested around 11 a.m. Thursday, Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin said. He was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court on a charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and is being held at the North Central Regional Jail on a $250,000 bond.
According to a news release from Martin, task force agents performed a controlled delivery after intercepting the package, which contained approximately one pound of suspected meth. Martin declined to discuss how the package was obtained, citing a need to protect investigative methods.
The package was addressed to Jeremy Tyler at 1403 Beaver St. An undercover task force agent brought the package to the address and spoke to an individual who said he was Jeremy and was waiting for a package to arrive, the release says.
When the agent told him he was being detained by police, the release says, the man fled on foot but was apprehended after a short pursuit.
Agents identified the suspect as Rowell and arrested him.
Martin said police are following up on the source of the meth, which was mailed from the West Coast. He described the material recovered as “high-quality, mass-produced” meth, not the type that is cooked in someone’s basement.
