Arrested Parkersburg South High School teacher to resign

PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg South High School English teacher accused of stealing prescription medications from people’s homes is resigning from Wood County Schools.

The Wood County Board of Education meets Tuesday and is expected to approve the resignation of Jacob Lee Dorton, 34, of 368 Suzanne St., Washington, W.Va.

Dorton was hired Aug. 9, 2016, to teach English at Parkersburg South. Dorton was arrested in September of last year after he allegedly took prescription medications from three residences in the Washington, W.Va., area in 2015 and 2016.

Dorton was indicted in January on six counts of burglary, three counts of unlawful entry and two counts of petit larceny. He entered a plea of not guilty and his trial was set for May 3.

According to Wood County Schools’ personnel department, Dorton has been suspended without pay since Sept. 19, 2016.
