Wood County farmhouse burns to ground

LUBECK — A Wood County man lost his two-story farmhouse in a fire early Monday morning.

Houston Walker of 8303 Wadesville Road was out of town when a fire started in his home and destroyed the structure, said Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mark Stewart. A neighbor spotted the fire and called the 911 center around 4:51 a.m.

No cause has been given for the fire, which remains under investigation, Stewart said. The fire had been burning for a while before it was noticed, Stewart said.

Fifteen firefighters from Lubeck, Blennerhassett and Washington Bottom volunteer fire departments responded to the fire scene. The wood structure was on the ground when firefighters arrived, Stewart said.
