Woman injured in accident in Vienna

VIENNA — A Parkersburg woman was seriously injured following an accident on Grand Central Avenue early Sunday morning.

A 2009 Chevy Cobalt driven by Ashley Sprouse, 22, of Parkersburg was traveling south in the 1000 block of Grand Central Avenue just after 2 a.m. Sunday when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole, said Sgt. Scott Hughes of the Vienna Police Department.

The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and had to remove Sprouse from the vehicle, officials reported.

She was transported to Camden Clark Medical Center “with significant injuries,” Hughes said. Sprouse was listed in serious condition Wednesday at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, officials said.

A passenger, Justin Barker, 23, no address available, was reported as being injured but was not transported, according to the police report. The report indicated the roadway was wet, but police did not know if that contributed to the accident.

The cause of the accident is “undetermined.” No citations have been issued.

A Go Fund Me page was set up for a “Support Fund for Ashley Sprouse.” The page was set up by Autumn Moneypenny, who wrote she is a cousin of Sprouse.

”I am hoping this page can help raise funds and donations for my cousin, Ashley Sprouse,” Moneypenny wrote on the Go Fund Me page. ”She was in a single vehicle accident where she was found unresponsive at 2 a.m., Sunday morning.”

Sprouse “has been fighting for her life since the moment of impact,” Moneypenny wrote. ”She has fractures in her skull, face, collarbone, ribs, hips and pelvis, and a broken shoulder. She is currently in a coma and may have brain damage.”

Sprouse will be off work for a while and has bills and family to support, Moneypenny said. Prayers also are being asked through “#avoiceforashley.”

Sprouse was moved from Camden Clark Medical Center to Ruby Memorial Hospital.
