Pennsboro man dies in traffic accident

SISTERSVILLE — A Pennsboro man was killed Monday in a traffic accident on West Virginia 2 in Tyler County, the sheriff’s department said.

David Peter Weekley, 45, of West Raymond Avenue in Pennsboro, was killed in a head-on collision and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, the department said.

Joseph Charles Preat, 18, of Shortline Highway in Reader, the other driver, was taken to Sistersville General Hospital for treatment, the department said.

“The accident remains under investigation to determine if criminal charges will be filed,” Deputy Shannon Huffman said.

The sheriff’s department said Weekley was traveling south on W.Va. 2 in a 2015 Hyundai while Preat was driving north in a 2007 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. The accident, which happened shortly before 5 p.m., occurred several miles south of Sistersville.

Neither vehicle was carrying passengers, Huffman said.

Traffic was backed up north and south on W.Va. 2 and both vehicles sustained heavy damage, the department said.

The sheriff’s department was assisted by the state Medical Examiner, the Sistersville Police Department and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.
