Trinity Episcopal Church announces Christmas Eve services

PARKERSBURG – Trinity Episcopal Church will be celebrating Christmas Eve with two services.

The late service is a traditional Anglican service with choir, organ and brass and begins with a concert at 10:30 p.m.,  followed by the service at 11 p.m.

The concert will begin with the choir processing to “Once in Royal David’s City,” continuing with “Torches” by Joubert, the traditional English carol “My Dancing Day” and “There Is Faint Music” by Dan Forrest. Choir directors are Dr. Raymond Lowther, Cathy Martin, Dan Thomas, and Barbara Full.

A brass ensemble will perform several traditional carols arranged by Jerome Naulais as well as accompanying the choir on Don Neuen’s “The Joy of Mary.” Brass Ensemble members are Harry Rich, Briana Blankenship, Eric Davis, Kent Jorgeson, Mike Dotson, Kelley Laseter and Scott Tignor with percussionist Jeff Edman.

The 11 p.m. service begins with brass, percussion, organ and choir on the processional “O Come All Ye Faithful,” arranged by Willcocks. The service, led by the Rev. Paul L. Hicks, continues with scripture readings telling the story of the birth of Jesus Christ and includes communion, where all baptized Christians are welcome. Other music selections include “Antiphonal Gloria” by Houston Bright for choir and brass.

The congregation will share in the lighting of the candles and singing of “Silent Night,” accompanied by guitarist Connie Bookman, creating a peaceful time to reflect on the holiest of nights. The service will conclude with brass, organ, percussion and choir on the final processional “Joy to the World.”

The early service begins at 5 p.m. and will consist of special readings performed by the youth of the church, as well as special music by the young people, Connie Bookman, guitarist and organist Allan Zipf. The early service also includes communion and the candlelight “Silent Night.”
