PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash involving an ambulance and a 1992 Chevrolet Camaro Monday night, said Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin.

Ralph D. McMullen Jr., 53, of Parkersburg, who was driving the Camaro, was transported Tuesday to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown with severe brain trauma caused by the crash, Martin said.

McMullen Jr. was traveling south on Rayon Drive approaching the intersection of Camden Avenue when the incident occurred, Martin said.

A 2014 Ford ambulance belonging to the St. Joseph’s Ambulance Service, being driven by Alesha A. Smith, was traveling east on Camden Avenue approaching the intersection of Rayon Drive when the crash occurred, said Martin. The ambulance was responding to an unresponsive person in Mineral Wells, Martin said.

The cause of the crash at about 7:49 p.m. is still being investigated, Martin said.

McMullen Jr. was transported from the accident scene to Camden Clark Medical Center for treatment and then transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Smith was treated at Camden Clark Medical Center for minor injuries, said Martin.

The findings of this investigation will be forwarded to Wood County Prosecutor Jason Wharton for further review, Martin said.
