Ellen Knotts’ paintings to be featured at Artsbridge

From staff report

PARKERSBURG – Paintings by a Little Hocking artist will be featured in an exhibition opening next week at the Artsbridge office.

Ellen Knotts’ work will be on display at the Artsbridge office where her show will open 5-7 p.m. Tuesday. The event is open to the public and the Artsbridge office is located at 925 Market St.

She only paints with oils and her introduction to art was at Warren High School. Two young teachers, Sandra and Sylvia Young, with a passion for teaching and a love of art, showed their students not only how to draw, but how to appreciate the joy of painting.

The Young sisters encouraged Knotts to not be afraid to express herself and they always found something positive about her work. Sometimes it was the comment “That’s interesting; tell me about it.”

“I painted a little in the late ’80s with some art students in a class taught by Tom Stahl,” Knotts said. “But I gave it up for a real estate career and children at home. Although I never lost the passion for painting, my busy schedule took precedence.”

Knotts retired two years ago and started painting again with Stahl in his Thursday night class. Her work was recently featured in a student art show at Stahl’s Nursery and Christmas Shop in Little Hocking.

Several pieces on display will be for sale at the opening. Also on display are items from her private collection that are for sale.

Hours for the October exhibit are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday.
