Storm causes Parkersburg power outage
A major storm caused high winds and a power outage in downtown Parkersburg Tuesday afternoon. Check newsandsentinel.com and Wednesday’s edition of the Parkersburg News and Sentinel for details.
UPDATE: Parkersburg Mayor Bob Newell reports the main power lines into the city are out, and recommends people stay off the streets while traffic lights are out; and because of the threat of live wires.
Newell also reported City Park is closed after a tree fell, injuring one person. The extent of the person’s injuries are unknown, but believed not to be life threatening. The person was being treated by the fire department.
Newell reported one death when a woman died of a reported heart attack in her car, at 20th and Liberty streets.
UPDATE: Newell said the damage appears to be the same as in the derecho that occurred two years ago in June 2012.
Wood County 911 Director and Ed Hupp are traveling the area assessing the damage.
“It was total madness there for a little bit with the influx of calls,” Woodyard said.
Meanwhile Vienna Mayor Randy Rapp said his town fared better than some others with only a couple of traffic lights out.
