Jazz duo touring in MOV
PARKERSBURG – Former Washington County residents Liz Pennock and Paul Shambarger, performing as Liz Pennock & Dr. Blues, will be bringing their summer tour to the Mid-Ohio Valley once again this summer.
Based in St. Petersburg, Fla., the Upright Records recording artists are performing at Six Pence Pub & Eatery on Seventh Street in Parkersburg on Aug. 22 from 9 p.m.-midnight and at the Adelphia Music Hall on Second Street in Marietta with Roy Book Binder on Aug. 28, from 7-10 p.m.
They also will be performing at the Diamond Teeth Mary Festival in Huntington on Aug. 23.
The piano/guitar blues duo relocated from the Marietta area to St. Petersburg 18 years ago but continue to tour around the eastern United States and Europe. They performed at the Brussels Boogie Woogie Piano Summit in Belgium in 2004, and in Paris, France, at the International Boogie Et Blues Festival in January 2013. The duo has played in Germany and Cozumel, Mexico.
Liz Pennock & Dr. Blues are excited to be performing their own brand of blues, boogie and originals at The Adelphia Music Hall in Marietta in a dual show with world-class singer/songwriter/guitarist Roy Book Binder, they said.
Pennock and husband Paul Shambarger (Dr. Blues) have played extensively in West Virginia, Ohio and surrounding states over their 30 years together. This tour will take them to Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana and Kentucky, including a performance at the Cincinnati Blues Festival on Aug. 2.
Liz and Doc worked extensively with legendary blues singer Mary McClain for 12 years prior to her death in 2000 and released her only CD, “Walking Mary’s Blues,” in 1994; the Huntington festival will be held downtown at Heritage Station.
The blues team has six CDs to its credit, including the latest album “Boogie Woogie Staircase.” They are working on a new album, due for release in 2015. Liz & Doc’s CDs are available at all performances and via their website at www.lizpennock.com
