Explosion victim improving

HUNTINGTON – A month after a June 24 explosion at Enviro-Tank Clean Inc. along Ohio 7, a Ravenswood man who was seriously injured in the accident is still hospitalized, but improving.

A nursing supervisor at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington confirmed Friday that 32-year-old Kevin McClain is listed in fair condition at the facility.

McClain is an employee of BBU Services of West Virginia, a Kenna-based environmental construction contractor. He and two Enviro-Tank employees were injured during the explosion, which happened as they were unloading a gasoline-water mixture from the BBU truck.

According to the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office, excessive gasoline vapors in the unloading area caused the explosion.

Enviro-Tank employees Justin A. Flesher, 33, and Fred E. Johnston, 53, both of Belpre, were treated for less critical burns and released from area hospitals the same day of the accident.

The explosion is being investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Enviro-Tank is an industrial wastewater treatment company at 12381 Ohio 7 in Dunham Township.
