Belpre Homecoming offers fun activities

BELPRE – The 82nd edition of the Belpre Homecoming kicks off Thursday and while most people look forward to the food and entertainment, many other activities are planned at the annual fest.

“There is a lot going on all weekend for community members of all ages,” said Karen Waller, executive director of the chamber.

Pageants have been a mainstay of the more than eight-decades-old community event and will begin directly following Thursday’s opening ceremonies. The pageants will be held in the park gazebo near the Suddenlink Main Stage.

The Little Miss and Mister Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. with three candidates for Little Mister Belpre Homecoming and six girls hoping to be named Little Miss Belpre Homecoming.

The Junior Miss Homecoming pageant will be held at 6 p.m. Friday with eight contestants while the final pageant for Miss Teen and Miss Belpre Homecoming will be at 7 p.m. Saturday. There are five contestants vying for Miss Teen Belpre Homecoming and six young women looking to be crowned Miss Belpre Homecoming.

The third Youth and Family Fun night will be Friday and include the Belpre Youth Chamber Games of a balloon launch and Hula-Hoop contest in the ballfield from 6 to 7 p.m.

Friday will include a classic car cruise-in while the majority of the activities will be held Saturday and begin early.

Saturday’s events will begin with the Buddy Bass Fishing Tournament scheduled for 7 a.m. at the Belpre Boat Ramp with the Kids Fishing Derby to begin at 9 a.m. at the Civitan Park pond.

“The pond is being stocked and we hope to have a lot of kids fishing,” Waller said.

The Belpre Mile Run and Walk will begin at 9:40 a.m. in Howes Grove Park and work its way down Washington Boulevard before the parade begins at 10 a.m.

This will be the second year for the Duck Pluck fundraiser at the Belpre City Pool at 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Duck Pluck tickets are still available with the purchase bringing a chance to win a prize.

The fundraiser will offer cash prizes totaling $1,000 to winners whose ducks are “plucked” from the pool.

Tickets are $5 each or $20 for five.

Sponsored exclusively by Belpre Savings Bank, tickets are available at Belpre Kroger, The Churn, Belpre Savings Bank, Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce office, Bob’s Market and Greenhouse and the Belpre City Building.

Proceeds go to support homecoming events.
