Shooting drill set for high school
HARRISVILLE – The Ritchie County Sheriff’s Department today will conduct a training exercise 1 p.m. today at the Ritchie County High School, the sheriff said.
Twenty-eight participants in the department’s Junior Police Academy will take part in the active shooting training, Sheriff Bryan Backus said.
The sheriff’s department, State Police, the Harrisville, Ellenboro and Pennsboro fire department, emergency services and the board of education will participate, Backus said.
The program started on Sunday and will end 2 p.m. Friday with graduation. Students, from 13-17 years old, participate in numerous training exercises including fingerprinting, physical fitness, a paintball competition and visits to the old state penitentiary in Moundsville and the Northern Regional Jail.
