PHS archery team competes
COSHOCTON, Ohio – The Parkersburg High School Big Reds Archery Team had a fun-filled weekend May 24 and 25 shooting at the Rinehart 100 in Coshocton, Ohio.
The Rinehart 100 is a two-day event shooting 50 targets each day on more than 300 acres at the Coshocton sportsmen’s club.
On Saturday, the archers started on the African range at 8 a.m. and finished the 50th target around 4 p.m. The African range was set up with 3D targets, which included an elephant, giraffe, tiger, large bat and a dinosaur to name a few.
On Sunday, the archers started at 7 a.m. to shoot the American range, which included bears, deer, fox, raccoon and skunk to name a few of the 50 targets.
With score of 1,000 or higher out of possible 1,200 with a two-day total, the archers received a 1000 Rinehart pin. The top four finishers in each class received a top finisher pin.
On Saturday, Nathaniel Parsons placed first and Dalton Evans placed second. On Sunday, all four places went to the Big Red archers. Nathaniel Parsons first place, Dalton Evans second place, Wes Cox third place, and Brandon Conner fourth place.
Other participants from the archery team were Bryan Pugh, Ashley Chittum, Austin Goodnight, Cody Greathouse and middle school shooter Courtney Greathouse under the direction of Coach Jim Parsons.
The archers arrived on Friday at the Colonial Inn campground in Coshocton, Ohio, and set up tents to start their weekend. On downtime, the archers fished in the lake at the archery club and then visited around the campfire making s’mores and roasting hot dogs.
Some of the Big Reds Archery Team will continue to shoot throughout the summer. Today, some of the Big Reds Archery team will go to High Feather Archery in Doddridge County to shoot the second leg of the West Virginia IBO Triple Crown.
The third leg of IBO Triple Crown will be on July 20 at Lumberport Archery in Shinnston, W.Va. The final shoot for the 2013-2014 will be in Ellicottville, N.Y., on Aug. 8, 9 and 10 for the 3D World IBO tournament.
The Big Reds Archery Team will be having fundraisers to help with the travel expenses. On Thursday, the Chick-Fil-A on Grand Central Avenue will be having a spirit night for the archers. A percentage of sales from the day with receipts turned in will be donated to the team.
On July 13, the archers will have a basket/purse bingo at the Parkersburg Moose Lodge with 20 games for a $20 donation with 50/50 drawing, raffles, door prizes and concessions.
