Marietta man arrested on sex offense with minor
MARIETTA – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Marietta man for an alleged sexual offense involving a 10-year-old girl.
Sheriff Larry Mincks reported that his office investigated a complaint Monday from a 37-year-old Vincent resident who stated her 10-year-old daughter may have been sexually assaulted by Robert “Buddy” R. Sammons, 68, 205 Arends Ridge Road, Marietta.
The previous day the mother left her daughter alone with Sammons for a period of time while she attended an event with his wife. She stated that on the following day she noticed her daughter was not acting right so she asked her daughter what was wrong. Her daughter replied that while she was with Sammons on May 25, he tried to kiss her. She further stated that he kissed her legs from her knees to her ankles, and then kissed her on the neck, Mincks said.
Questioned by a detective and caseworker, the child alleged that Sammons talked to her about “S.E.X.” and that one day that will happen between her and a boy. She also stated that Sammons asked if he could “make out with her.”
The child stated she was watching a cartoon movie and Sammons told her that “that’s what you do when you watch movies.” Sammons subsequently got on his hands and knees beside her and began kissing her legs and then moved to her neck and kissed her, Mincks said. She said she told him to stop, but he did not. She stated that Sammons then stopped and told her not to tell anyone what he did, Mincks said.
During an interview, Sammons admitted that he kissed the child’s legs, arms and neck area. He told detectives that approximately 30 years ago he was convicted in Texas for a similar incident, officials said.
In the previous incident, Sammons said he touched the breast area of an 11-year-old female and that he served some jail time and was on probation for 10 years. Sammons commented that the same urges he had with the child in 1985 came back to him and that is why he kissed the victim the way he did, officials said.
Sammons said that he first asked the victim if he could tickle her and that was going to be his gateway to possibly go further. After the victim refused, Sammons said he just began kissing her, officials said. Sammons stated the emotions lasted only for a few minutes and then he realized what he was doing was wrong and he stopped. Sammons appeared to be remorseful, told investigators that he knew it was wrong and commented that he knows he will have to pay the price for what he did, Mincks said.
As a result of the investigation, Sammons was arrested on a third-degree felony charge of gross sexual imposition. He was being held Friday in the Washington County Jail on $15,000 bond.
