Man jumps from burning house
One person climbed out of a window of a burning home 795 Joe Skinner Road in Washington County this morning, officials said.
The unidentified man broke an air conditioner free from the window and climbed onto the roof of the two-story house where he appeared dazed and his hair was singed, a neighbor said.
The man, coaxed by neighbors and passersby, slid down the roof and hung from the eave where he let go and was caught by people below, a witness said. The drop was about 12 feet.
He was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, fire officials said.
A second person was in the house at the time of the fire, which was reported around 7:30 a.m., but wasn’t injured.
The house was fully engulfed when departments arrived, fire officials said.
The first to arrive was the Belpre Volunteer Fire Department. The Little Hocking and Dunham fire departments also responded with men and trucks.
The fire was under control in 30 minutes, however, firefighters had to extinguish numerous hot spots, officials said.
