Spanish Harlem Orchestra to perform at WVU-P

PARKERSBURG – The renowned ensemble Spanish Harlem Orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. Friday in the College Activities Center at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

The performance marks the close of the 2013-2014 season for the Distinguished Performance Series at WVU-P.

Tickets at the door are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased in the Business Office during normal college hours, or by calling 304-424-8223. WVU-P students may purchase special advance tickets for themselves and one guest for $2 each.

Spanish Harlem Orchestra is one of today’s most distinguished salsa and Latin jazz groups. Known to fans as SHO, the two-time Grammy winning band brings incredible energy with rich, mesmerizing sound that will leave audiences dancing for hours.

Called “the best you can get” by the BBC, SHO has led the recent resurgence of interest in salsa music that first re-emerged on the streets of New York City in the 1960s and 1970s. The 13-member ensemble’s performances are characterized by an unwavering respect for the music’s rich history and a tenacious adherence to its enduring traditions.

The tour engagement of the Spanish Harlem Orchestra is funded through the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and West Virginia Division on Culture and History, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts and Artsbridge.
