OVU recognizes honorary alumni
VIENNA – Ohio Valley University’s Alumni Association selected G.K. and Jo Pennington as honorary Alumni Awards recipients. The association honored the Pennington’s during the school’s annual Homecoming Weekend this year.
“G.K. and Jo have served in ministry for more than 44 years. As a ministry couple they have taught others in many formats, ranging from one-on-one Bible studies to couples retreats to community activities,” said Harold Shank, OVU president. “They are pillars of faith and wonderful examples of Christian leaders within our campus community.”
The couple has taught at OVU since 2000, G.K. in the College of Bible and Jo in the College of Education. G.K. teaches ministry courses and helps to organize the university’s annual Bible lectureship, Huffard Forum, and Inman Biblical Preaching Forum. His work with OVU’s online learning system has helped to expand the university’s offerings beyond the traditional campus. Jo works to train and transform young people into future teachers. She also sits on several state education committees, volunteers for the local school district, and organizes special events.
“The Penningtons are humble individuals who have devoted their lives to Christian higher education. They were an obvious selection for our Honorary Alumni award,” said Don Lallathian, OVU director of alumni relations and planned giving. “We are very blessed to have G.K. and Jo leading and instructing Ohio Valley University students, as well as being active participants in local congregations, and the community to bring about spiritual and personal service to the Lord.”
