Career Center names Students of the Month

MARIETTA – The Washington County Career Center has named is April Students of the Month, Amber Suprano and Phillip Ellis.

Suprano, a Warren High School senior enrolled in the Welding program, is the daughter of Keith Suprano and Martha Suprano, both of Vincent.

Suprano is a member the SkillsUSA youth organization. Through SkillsUSA and placed first in welding at both the local and regional competitions and will be competing later this month at the state level in Columbus. During her junior year, Suprano placed first in the Tech Prep Showcase for Welding.

She has received awards for All A’s Principal List, All A’s & B’s Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, and Outstanding Welding Student. Suprano was placed in the “School to Apprentice” welding program at Pioneer Group and she was the first student in her group to pass all six welding certifications.

Suprano is employed at Pioneer Pipe in Marietta as a welder. Upon graduation, she plans to enter directly into the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union 168 five-year apprenticeship program as a second-year apprentice.

Ellis is a Frontier High school senior enrolled in the Landscape Construction and Turf Management program. He is the son of Aaron and Samantha Smith of New Matamoras.

Ellis has earned awards for All A’s Principal List and All A’s & B’s Honor Roll. He is a member of the FFA youth organization, and he is both the Chapter vice president for FFA and Class President of his technical program.

He is the president and a member of the Career Center’s National Technical Honor Society. At Frontier, Ellis has been active with baseball, football, track and the Drama Club. Two Career Center staff members nominated him.

Ellis has been accepted to West Virginia University and he plans to obtain a double-major in landscaping architecture and forensic science to become a forensic biologist.
