Winter storm warning issued through Monday
CHARLESTON – The National Weather Service in Charleston issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Parkersburg and Mid-Ohio Valley beginning at 5 a.m. today and running through 10 a.m. Monday.
The advisory – which replaces the previously issued winter storm watch – warns of freezing rain, sleet and snow. A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected or occurring and strong winds are possible. The conditions may make travel very hazardous or impossible, the weather service said.
Ice accumulations of up to a half-inch are possible along with snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches, starting this morning and then peaking tonight before diminishing Monday.
Untreated surfaces, includign roads and walkways, could become hazardous and power interruptions may occur as ice and wet snow accumulate on trees and power lines. The Monday morning commute will likely be affected, the weather service reported.
