Schools to compete in history bowl

WESTON – Teams from three middle schools in the region will participate in a play-in tournament of the West Virginia State History Bowl from 9: 30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Lewis County High School in Weston.

They are:

* Ritchie County Middle School, Ellenboro, Ritchie County, one team.

* Ravenswood Middle School, Ravenswood, Jackson County one team.

* Jackson Middle School, Vienna, Wood County, one team.

The play-in competition will accommodate schools unable to compete in their regional round because of inclement weather and school closings. It also is open to all schools throughout the state that want to get a second chance in the History Bowl tournament.

In addition to the winner and runner-up teams, an additional six teams competing in the play-in round will go to the state tournament in April.

The West Virginia History Bowl features questions about West Virginia history, culture, heritage, tourism and people. Questions are compiled by the staff of the Archives and History section of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.
