Robber hits second video lottery shop

PARKERSBURG – Two armed robberies of video lottery locations within 24 hours have Parkersburg police officers searching for a single suspect, officials said Tuesday night.

The first robbery took place at the River City Perk at 1622 Seventh St. at 10:57 p.m. Monday, said Parkersburg Police Chief Joseph Martin.

The second robbery happened at 7:16 p.m. Tuesday at the City Perk at 3509 Emerson Ave., Martin said.

“After reviewing the security video, it appears we are looking for one suspect for both robberies,” Martin said in a statement. “The department is actively attempting to locate this individual and encourages the public to notify Parkersburg Police Department if they recognize this suspect in the photograph.”

Martin said the police have a suspect but the name was not being released Tuesday.

Police have described the suspect as a black man who is 5 feet 7 inches tall, bald and wearing glasses. In both robberies, he has worn a black leather trench coat and khaki pants, police said.

During the second robbery on Tuesday evening, the suspect entered the City Perk and gave the employee a note indicating he had a gun and was demanding money. Martin said the clerk gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.

During the first robbery on Monday night, the suspect entered the River City Perk and presented the employee with a note demanding money, Martin said.

The man accompanied this note with gestures which indicated he had a gun, but the threat of a gun was not written, Martin said.

In both robberies, Martin said, there were no injuries.

In both robberies, the man fled the scene on foot, Martin said.

Officers with the Parkersburg Police Department searched the surrounding area after the first robbery for some time on Monday evening and into Tuesday morning, but were unable to locate the suspect, Martin said.

Officers searched again after the second robbery on Tuesday evening, but the suspect again eluded them, Martin said.

Police are asking anyone with information on the identity of the suspect or with information about the case to contact the Parkersburg Police Department at 304-424-8444 or to leave a tip on the crime tip line at www.parkersburgpolice.com.
