Snow causes cancellations
Schools in the region were closed Monday as an overnight storm dumped 5 inches and more of snow,
The National Weather Service in Charleston issued a winter storm warning that was to be in effect until 10 a.m. Monday.
Pleasants, Ritchie and Tyler county schools announced closures on Sunday. Also closed were schools in Wood, Wirt, Jackson, Doddridge, Gilmer and systems in Washington County.
Washington State Community College and West Virginia University at Parkersburg are closed. Washington State later today will determine if afternoon classes will be held.
Police responded to several accidents.
The Ohio Department of Transportation Monday morning said 100 plows were on the road since 6 p.m. Sunday. The main focus is on bridges, overpasses, hills and sharp turns, ODOT said.
Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks placed the county on a Level 2 emergency. Under Level 2, roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow and only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roadways.
