One arrested after Vienna car wreck

VIENNA – A Vienna man was arrested on a charge of third-offense driving under the influence Tuesday after hitting a parked vehicle on 39th Street in Vienna, officials said.

Billy J. Burnside, 26, of 42 Lexington Park Drive, Vienna, was arrested on a charge of third-offense driving under the influence, a felony, at the scene of the accident, said Vienna Police Chief George Young.

Officers were dispatched to a wreck in the 700 block of 39th Street around 10 a.m., Young said.

Burnside was unresponsive in the driver’s seat of his 1997 Toyota Tercel at the scene, Young said. Burnside had struck a parked vehicle, Young said.

The vehicle was still running when officers reached the scene, Young said. It had to be secured by officers before Burnside could be removed from the vehicle, Young said.

Burnside had to be awakened by officers to be removed from the vehicle, Young said. He was arrested and transported to the Vienna Police Department for processing.

Burnside was allegedly in possession of “several types of prescription medication, suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia” at the time of the accident, Young said.

Records from the Wood County Magistrate Court indicate this is Burnside’s third arrest for DUI within the past four years, Young said.

Burnside was arraigned before Magistrate Joe Kuhl and released on $5,000 bond.
