Vadakin marking 55 years with expansion of workforce
MARIETTA – Vadakin Inc. will mark its 55th anniversary with an expansion of its workforce, its first job fair and an open house from 3-7 p.m. Jan. 13 at the plant at 110 Industry Road in Marietta.
Incorporated in 1959, the company invented and patented high-pressure water-cleaning equipment to clean the boilers of coal-fired power plants across the United States.
“Coal-fired power plants are required to conduct boiler cleanings to increase efficiency and safety,” said Mark T. Whiteley, who invented and updated many of the tools Vadakin utilizes.
Vadakin’s ownership team – president and executive manager Sara J. Hooper, Whiteley and Greg G. Grose – see the job fair as an opportunity to celebrate 55 years and the expansion.
“We want to open our doors to the press and to prospective employees to show them what we do for companies across the United States,” Hooper said.
The company has been present for a long time, but few people know what it does, Grose said.
“We represent Washington County all over the country. We’ve been in the Midwest and Northeast since the 1970s and have recently expanded into the South in the last few years. We’ve covered a lot of ground,” Grose said. “It’s time we opened our doors to let people know what we do and take applications from qualified people committed to drug-free lifestyles who want to travel in 2014.”
Vadakin also wants to develop relationships with local students.
“Our guys have a lot of engineering and mechanical experience and knowledge,” said Hooper. “We think we can show local high school and college students what a career in this line of work would be like, so we’ll be reaching out to the educational community this year as well.”
The ownership team will show videos, serve refreshments, answer questions, take applications and let attendants look into one of their massive equipment trucks.
“We think people will be amazed at what we do. It’s big and exciting and there aren’t many companies in America who do what we do,” said Hooper.
