Two charged after narcotics raid

ATHENS – Authorities in Athens County Thursday raided a suspected methamphetamine laboratory on Ohio 682, the Athens County Sheriff’s Department said on Friday.

The Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Sheriff’s Response Team served the search warrant after N.E.T. detectives Jim Heater and Doug Crites received information of an active methamphetamine lab located at 10500 SR 682 in Athens, Sheriff Pat Kelly said. The raid took place in the early evening hours, Kelly said.

The resident of the house, Yancey Hunter, 31, was charged with assembly/possession of chemicals to manufacture methamphetamine, Kelly said.

Another resident, Carly Campbell, 25, was arrested on a warrant out of Athens County, Kelly said. The warrant was for failure to appear, according to the South East Ohio Regional Jail.

Hunter and Campbell were both taken to the regional jail. Additional charges are pending, Kelly said.

Heater and Crites dismantled and neutralized the lab, Kelly said. The Plains Volunteer Fire Department and Athens County EMS assisted, he said.
