Sheriff’s departments issue weather advisories

PARKERSBURG The Wood County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office have issued statements encouraging residents to stay indoors and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary overnight.

Washington County issued a Level 2 weather emergency because of the anticipated extreme cold temperatures overnight. Residents are advised to stay indoors and only travel if it is necessary.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging residents to stay indoors and not go out unless it is necessary, said Chief Deputy Shawn Graham.

Those who do venture outside are urged to warmly dress, said Graham. Children should not be permitted to play outdoors until the temperatures rise, he said.

All outdoor pets should be brought inside to prevent them from freezing to death, he said.
