Fire department responds at apartment

PARKERSBURG – The Parkersburg Fire Department responded to a fire Sunday evening.

A call came in around 8 p.m. for a fire reported at a garage apartment at 1605 Race St., located near Parkersburg City Park, officials said.

One room of the apartment was burnt. A resident was at home at the time of the fire, but this person managed to get out on their own, officials said.

The fire department responded with 15 firefighters, five pumpers, one tower truck and a rescue vehicle. The fire was quickly contained with fire crews having the blaze out in about five minutes.

St. Joseph’s Ambulance Service and the Parkersburg Police Department also responded to the scene.

Fire crews were still on the scene at 9:30 p.m. looking for hot spots and assisting the police, officials said.
