Car catches fire at Parkersburg GoMart

PARKERSBURG – The Parkersburg Fire Department battled a car fire in the GoMart parking lot at 1810 Camden Ave. Tuesday.

A silver 1999 Hyundai Sonata owned by Augusta Peters was unoccupied when firefighters arrived on the scene around 11:46 a.m., said Lt. Jason Enoch with the Parkersburg Fire Department. There were no injuries during the fire, Enoch said.

The fire was contained to the engine compartment of the vehicle, Enoch said. The driver was not present when the fire department arrived, having already been given a ride by the Parkersburg Police to retrieve a different vehicle, Enoch said.

The cause of the fire is unknown. The fire was brought under control in a matter of minutes, said Enoch.
