Rockefeller says no to Iran sanctions
WASHINGTON – Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., urged the Senate on Wednesday to not impose new sanctions against Iran.
Rockefeller, a senior member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said the administration is in diplomatic negotiations to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon and that additional sanctions could jeopardize diplomatic progress.
“The question is how, not whether, we prevent a nuclear-armed Iran. For the first time in years, there is a real opportunity to verifiably eliminate Iran’s nuclear weapons capability through tough negotiations rather than by acts of war,” he said.
