Truck crash blamed on speed
BELPRE – A tractor-trailer that ended up on its side Monday afternoon on the off ramp from the Blennerhassett Island Bridge in Ohio just outside Belpre was the result of excessive speed and failure by the driver to maintain control, reported the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The truck was being driven by Michael S. Hartwick of St. Louis, Mo., when it tipped over on the off ramp, said Sgt. J.T. Welch of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Hartwick was cited for failure to maintain control.
Hartwick was treated at the scene for minor injuries and was not transported, Welch said.
What was being transported was not listed on the report, but Welch said there was nothing hazardous on board.
At the scene of the accident, the truck appeared to be empty.
No damage estimate was available.
Gary’s Wrecker Service towed the truck away.
The off ramp was eventually opened to one lane, the troopers reported. It was completely reopened by 6 p.m. Monday, they added.
