Market Street overrun with ghouls, goblins and other characters for Monster Mash

PARKERSBURG – Ghouls and goblins and a variety of other characters descended on downtown Parkersburg Saturday for the Monster Mash on Market Street.

Saturday’s party, which was held on a closed off section of Market Street – between Seventh and Eighth streets – was organized by Downtown PKB.

Organizers said this was the first year for the Monster Mash and they hope to make it an annual event.

Monster Mash on Market Street had several activities for young and old from arts and crafts to dancing in the street, to many different songs included Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

Alex Clark, of Parkersburg, said his children were enjoying the evening.

“It’s awesome,” he said. “I was at work at 6 o’clock this morning and I just got back to town and was volunteered to be here tonight.”

Clark said his daughter, Jayen Clark, was enjoying the party too much to decide what she liked best.

Alison Bearse, of Vienna, said the event was something that is needed locally.

“It’s something for the kids to do,” she said. “It has them doing something, which is better than nothing and it’s entertaining.”

Rachel Nedeff , of Parkersburg, said it was a good time for her family.

“I love the fact they can interact with the art,” she said.

Her son Rolland said he liked something else.

“I like that it smells like popcorn,” he said.

After two hours of activities and fun on Market Street, the program ended with a costume parade to the Smoot Theatre at 213 Fifth St., where a showing of the original “Frankenstein” movie concluded the evening’s activities.
