Former Vienna city secretary ordered to pay restitution

PARKERSBURG – A former secretary and court clerk for the City of Vienna was ordered to pay restitution to the city after a hearing Wednesday in Wood County Circuit Court.

Jennifer Anne Hunt, 44, of 609 19th St., Vienna, appeared for a restitution hearing after her guilty plea to an embezzlement charge.

Earlier she was sentenced to one to 10 years in prison with credit for one day served, suspended for five years probation. She was required to serve 30 days in jail.

In Wednesday’s hearing she was ordered by Judge Jeffrey Reed to pay $140,726 to the city.

Hunt was indicted by the January 2013 Wood County grand jury on one felony count of embezzlement. According to court records, between January 2008 and June 2012, she embezzled more than $1,000 in funds collected by the Vienna Police Department while working as a city court clerk, by turning in money at a slower rate than the money was collected.

During a yearly audit in June 2012, the missing funds were found which led to an investigation by the Vienna Police Department and the West Virginia State Auditor’s Office.
