Early morning fire consumes Rockport home

ROCKPORT – A fire in Rockport during the early morning hours of Saturday left the residence a total loss, firefighters said.

Chief Jeff Minner with the Pond Creek Volunteer Fire Department said he wasn’t permitted to release the name of the homeowner but said the family was being helped by the American Red Cross after the fire displaced the family.

Minner said the fire occurred off of Slate Creek Road in Rockport around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

“It was totally involved when we arrived on the scene,” Minner said. “Neighbors were awakened (by the flames).”

The chief said the cause of the fire and its origin have not been determined. No one was home at the time of the blaze.

The Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department responded as mutual aid with Pond Creek.
