Utility board to flow test hydrants

PARKERSBURG The Parkersburg Utility Board will flow test fire hydrants beginning 9:30 a.m. today around the Wood County Library at 3100 Emerson Ave. and around Jefferson School at the 1200 block of Plum Street.

Testing will continue until complete.

This process is necessary to determine the amount of water that can be safely accessed from a hydrant during firefighting events. The procedure requires hydrants to be flushed for several minutes and pressures recorded during flushing.

Discolored water could result in the areas of the testing process. Should customers experience discolored water, flush lines through a cold water tap at a bathtub or utility sink.

If the water does not clear within a few minutes contact the office at 304-424-8535 during business hours (8a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) or 304-424-8532 after 4:30 p.m.
