State trooper’s son dies in car accident

GANDEEVILLE – The 20-year-old son of a West Virginia state trooper died, following a single-car accident in Roane County.

According to the West Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous, 20-year-old Mark Mullen II of Spencer, was killed Thursday evening in a single-car accident on U.S. 119 near Gandeeville.

Mullen was traveling north when his vehicle went off the road and struck a rock. Baylous said the vehicle rolled several times and Mullen was ejected.

He was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center’s general hospital where he died due to the sustained injuries.

Mullen is the son of Cpl. Steven Mullen of the West Virginia State Police.

“The thoughts and prayers of the West Virginia State Police remain with Cpl. Mullen and his family as they deal with this tragic loss of life,” Baylous said.
