Police arrest wanted man on drug charges

PARKERSBURG – West Virginia State Police arrested a man wanted in Wood and Athens counties on drug charges around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police received a tip that Brown “John” Salyers, 46, of Coolville, was at an apartment complex located on 29th Street in Parkersburg, according to a press release from the West Virginia State Police.

Officers found him hiding in the closet of his mother’s apartment on 29th Street. According to police, he had altered his appearance while on the run, having cut his hair and dyed it.

Salyers was wanted, along with his wife who was previously arrested on Aug. 31, after state police launched an investigation into the couple. They are accused of having a “shake and bake” methamphetamine lab near the 12th Street floodwall on Aug. 25. According to police, a camping area in the woods contained materials used in making meth.

The couple is also charged with allegedly being involved in a recent meth lab investigation in Athens County.

Salyers’s wife, Michele, 39, was arrested after police believed she was under the influence of a controlled substance upon speaking with her on Aug. 25. She was arrested and arraigned in Ritchie County on felony charges of purchasing or possessing chemicals related to the manufacturing of meth and operating or attempting to operate a clandestine drug lab. She was confined to the North Central Regional Jail on $150,000 bond. She was later arraigned in Wood County and held on a $20,000 bond.

Brown Salyers was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court on Tuesday and was being held on $300,000 bond. He was also charged with drug related conspiracy to commit possession of meth precursors and operating or attempting to operate a clandestine drug lab.
