Jackson man charged with sexual abuse

RAVENSWOOD -A Jackson County man has been arrested and jailed on charges of sex abuse.

Timothy P. Charlton, 31, of Ravenswood, was arrested by Ravenswood police and charged with three counts of sexual abuse.

According to the criminal complaint, Ravenswood police Sgt. D.G. Prechtl was contacted by the victim’s mother who alleged the 7-year-old female was sexually assaulted by Charlton on three separate occasions at his Ravenswood residence.

The complaint states police and child protective service officials interviewed the girl, who claimed Charlton forced her to perform oral sex.

Charlton’s bail was set at $300,000. He is being held at the South Central Regional Jail.

In 2011, Charlton, then a resident of Parkersburg, was indicted on numerous counts of first-, second- and third-degree sexual abuse that were alleged to have occurred between September 2009 and March 2010. According to the Wood County Circuit Clerk’s office the case was dismissed in May 2011 after the victim recanted the statements.

In January Charlton was indicted on charges of attempted burglary and destruction of property, stemming from incidents in November 2011. In June, he pleaded to a misdemeanor count of destruction of property and was given probation.

For the most recent charges Charlton faces a minimum of 25 years in prison.
