Goode sworn into Vienna Police Department

VIENNA – Vienna City Council Tuesday approved the hiring of Jordan Goode of Williamstown as a new police officer.

Goode arrives only a few weeks after council approved the addition of Michael Ritchie as a police officer. Ritchie helped to swear in Goode.

Vienna police Chief George Young said he is happy with the new officers.

“I think we did pretty good,” Young said of the new additions to his police force.

Mayor Randy Rapp gave the new officer a few words of wisdom.

“The people in this room (council chambers) are here to support you,” Rapp said. “The bottom line is you work for the city of Vienna, and I think everyone in this room realizes you have a job to do.”

Rapp said he hopes the new hires recognize the seriousness of a role as a police officer.

“I really appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given,” Goode said.

Council members heard from Toni Tiano, county grant coordinator.

Tiano said Vienna will receive $91,837 through the Community Development Block Grant program. She said $8,000 will go toward emergency home repairs, $68,837 for energy-efficient windows and $15,000 for general administrative costs.

The CDBG budget was approved through three public hearings and by council members on Tuesday.

The next council meeting will be held in the city building on Aug. 15.
