Police seek information on break-in

MARIETTA – Marietta Police are searching for a man they say forced his way into a Phillips Street home, leaving an elderly woman with minor injuries.

According to a release from police, an 80-year-old resident of a home at 921 Phillips St. got up around 2:47 a.m. Monday to see why her dog was barking. As she unlocked the front door of the residence, a man wearing a black ski mask pushed it inward, knocking her down.

The man, described as between 18 and 20 years old, white and about 5 feet, 5 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a slender build, demanded money from the woman. Police Capt. Jeff Waite declined to say whether the suspect had a weapon.

At that point, the release says, the woman’s 56-year-old daughter started screaming, in a nearby room, startling the suspect. The man then fled.

Nothing was taken during the incident, police said.

The case remained under investigation Monday afternoon.

“Officers have been working on it all day,” Waite said.

The captain advised people to be careful if they think someone might be prowling around their house.

“If you’re suspicious and you have any reason to believe somebody else may be around, instead of checking it out yourself, call the police department and let us come check it out,” Waite said.
