Parkersburg council to meet tonight

PARKERSBURG – Ordinances for a new Speedway gas station and guidelines for bicycles on sidewalks will be up for votes at this evening’s Parkersburg City Council meeting.

Council meets at 7:30 p.m. in the large chambers on the second floor of the city’s Municipal Building. The meeting is open to the public.

Three ordinances will be up for final readings tonight. Two deal with the building of a Speedway station on a block situated between Division and Neale streets and Fourth and Camden avenues. The first ordinance would close an alley which divides the property and the second would rezone the parcels for business use.

The third ordinance would rescind and replace the city’s bike ordinance which determines when bikes are allowed on city sidewalks. Officials have said the change will help complete the Little Kanawha Connector trail and allow the city to designate some city sidewalks as shared space for pedestrians and cyclists. The new ordinance is based on national guidelines for cyclists and bike paths.

Council also will consider a resolution dedicating a 40-foot public right of way known as Packard Court. The resolution is sponsored by the Municipal Planning Commission.
