Belpre accident leaves one injured

BELPRE – One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Washington Boulevard in Belpre Monday night, police said.

A dark blue Chevrolet Equinox and a pickup truck collided in front of the Belpre Church of God, 2932 Washington Blvd., around 6 p.m. Monday. The eastbound SUV attempted to turn left into the church parking lot when it was hit by the truck, Belpre police said.

Officer K.A. Nichols with the Belpre Police Department said Larry Hopkins, 70, Little Hocking, was transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries after the crash.

William Daugherty, 23, Belpre, was driving the pickup traveling westbound on Washington Boulevard that struck Hopkins’ SUV on its rear right side, Nichols said. Police said the SUV driver will likely be cited for failure to yield, but the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The Belpre Volunteer Fire Department and Belpre Police Department responded to the crash.
