Meth lab discovered during investigation
THE PLAINS, OHIO – Athens County Sheriff Patrick Kelly said a methamphetamine laboratory was discovered Tuesday in The Plains.
According to a release from the department, on Tuesday Detective Jack Taylor went to an Ohio 682, The Plains residence on a followup investigation and discovered an active methamphetamine lab.
Kelly said Taylor had information on an unrelated issue. When Taylor exited his vehicle, he saw smoke rising from the rear of a shed. The resident of the house came around the corner and Taylor asked the man what was smoking; the man turned and walked toward the smoke, Kelly said.
Taylor saw the methamphetamine lab behind the shed and secured the scene. Taylor secured a search warrant and the NET arrived and Detective Jim Heater dismantled and neutralized the lab.
The NET was assisted by The Plains Volunteer Fire Department. Arrested and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine in the vicinity of a juvenile was Clayton Ator, 37. He was transported to Southeast Ohio Regional Jail.
