Man arrested on child neglect charges

PARKERSBURG – The Parkersburg Police Department arrested Robert Ray Aguilar, 35, 806 41st St., Vienna, on two felony counts of child neglect.

Aguilar was arrested Saturday around 3:20 a.m. after officers responded to the area of Seventh and Lynn streets in reference to an unknown problem. Police said an employee of Sugars, 805 Seventh St., advised officers she had located two 14-year-old males sleeping in a van in the parking lot. Officers searched for the guardian of the boys, finding him in Wild Suzis Bar across the street.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Wood County Magistrate Court, Aguilar left his 14-year-old son and friend in the adult entertainment parking lot for hours alone. An open container of beer was found inside the vehicle, the report said. When Aguilar was contacted by officers he appeared to be extremely intoxicated and had no idea where the children were.

Aguilar was arraigned by video from the North Central Regional Jail in Wood County Magistrate Court. He was given a $10,000 bond. Police said he also faces other misdemeanor charges stemming from his arrest Saturday.
