Anglers fish up prizes at Mountwood Park

VOLCANO – The Moon Over Mountwood Fishing Festival drew over 200 children and over 250 adults in this year’s fishing tournament Friday night and Saturday morning at Mountwood Park.

The children fished from 5-9 p.m. Friday with the three longest fish winning prizes and the first 80 children registering receiving fishing poles. Trophies were given for the first fish caught until the supply ran out. The tournament was sponsored by Cabelas who also provided the free fishing rods and reels.

The winners of the children’s division for ages 0-6 were: first, Caden Windom 13 inches; second, Tyler Cochran, 12 3/4 inches; and third, Madison Brownfield, 11 1/2 inches. They won bicycles, fishing tackle and poles.

The ages 7-15 group were: first, Emma Harper, 34-inch carp; second, Hayden Kincaid, 22 1/4-inch carp; and third, Alex Barker, 18 1/4-inch catfish. The first prize was a children’s kayak and life vest, while second and third prizes were bicycles and tackle boxes with tackle and rod and reel combos.

The adult division started fishing at 10 p.m. Friday and ended at 8 a.m. Saturday. The first place winner was Blair Pratt with a 44-inch musky, followed in second by Josh Simms with a 43 1/2-inch flathead catfish and in third by Denver Hickle.
