Trial date set in concealment case

PARKERSBURG – Trail was set Wednesday for a woman who was one of three people indicted on charges of concealing a dead body.

Crystal Dawn Smith, 38, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, was set for trial on July 10, case No. 2 before Judge Robert Waters.

Smith was one of three people indicted in connection with the concealment of the body of Brandy Adams in September at a car wash on Seventh Street.

Smith was indicted with Victor Lee Thompson, 35, and Arthur Allen Thornton, 42, both in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, on charges of concealment of a deceased human body and conspiracy to commit concealment of a deceased human body.

On April 16, Thornton pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit concealment of a deceased human body and his sentencing was set for 11 a.m. June 25 before Waters. He also pleaded guilty to unrelated cases charging him with unlawful taking of a vehicle and fraudulent use of an access device.

On March 26, Thompson’s attorney made a motion for the charges against him to be dismissed. However since Smith and Thornton were not present for the hearing , it was continued to a later date.

In another hearing Wednesday:

* Audrey L. Augenstein, 39, 12830 Ohio 676, Waterford, was set for a new trial date at 9 a.m. Aug. 20 before Judge Jeffrey Reed. She was indicted on charges of embezzlement and grand larceny by embezzlement by the January 2010 grand jury.
