Breaking and entering at church being investigated
PARKERSBURG – Detectives with the Parkersburg Police Department are investigating a breaking and entering and theft of items from First Lutheran Church at 1701 19th St.
Police were called to the Parkersburg church around 7:30 a.m. Sunday to find someone had removed an estimated $10,000 worth of religious items from a storage room. Police said there were no signs of forced entry and no damage was done to the church building.
However, police detectives are still looking for some of the stolen items.
Around noon on Sunday church officials were contacted by an employee of the 19th Street Meat Market, 1801 19th St., after the employee recovered some of the stolen pieces in a pink backpack that had been put into a nearby dumpster.
Still missing are two silver chalices, two silver patens and one silver flagon.
