Shepherd acquitted of 12 felony counts

PARKERSBURG – After a three-day trial, a Wood County man was acquitted of the 12 counts brought against him.

Christopher Adrian Shepherd, 38, 160 Harvest Drive, Apt. 3, Vienna, was acquitted Thursday by the jury in the court of Judge Jeffrey Reed. He was charged in a special session of the Wood County grand jury on Feb. 21, 2012 on six counts of first-degree sexual abuse and six counts of sexual abuse by a parent, all felonies.

Robin Bonovitch, attorney for Shepherd, said the charges were alleged to have occurred to one alleged victim between 2007 and 2011.

Bonovitch said the defense in the trial was inconsistencies in the state’s case.

“There were inconsistent stories and inconsistencies among the witnesses and there were holes in the case history,” she said. “He was a parent and acted as a parent; he did not touch or do anything in the case in a sexual or gratifying way.”
